Is ki physical or spiritual energy or both? I think both because popo empties his spirit and goku can't sense him. But that's all I got |

It's life energy. It's not something with mass so it's not physical. Nor is it non-existent to be spiritual. It's simply the combination of the mind and soul. Mind and soul form a living force which is Chi!! My opinion. Edited by Andro, Jan 8 2014, 01:17 PM.

Everything is spiritual. Everything is energy. There are just different forms of energy. |

This brings up some interesting questions; I think I'm agreeing with Hearts saying magic=spiritual and energy=physical. This is why Dabura has magic because he's a demon, whereas all of Gohan's abilities are energy based. That's just a generalization but you get the point. (inb4 specific example) Basically manipulating your ki is just manipulating the energy that already exists in your body... Edited by petewentz, Jan 8 2014, 09:43 PM.

An example is reiatsu(spiritual energy) from bleach. How does ki in dbz compare to that? |

If you say Everything is energy you can't also say that there are different forms of energy. The only TRUE existing "energy" is that of momentum. . . down to even the very atoms. Momentum can only exist through physical matter. ^ That is for the real world. Chi is supposed to be energy besides that. It isn't dependent on atoms / matter, it isn't momentum, it's just energy which exists on it's own in living beings. Edited by Andro, Jan 9 2014, 01:46 PM.

I think Ki is a more physical thing, an energy that everyone has inside it's body, and that with the right training can be manipulated. |

Sure I can say that. Down to the atomic level everything is energy. It's just that every seeming material form is comprised of energy slowed down or frozen. The chi in dragonball is nothing but light that has temperature and momentum. Both different forms of energy and light but nevertheless energy. The faster the vibration of atoms the hotter and less solid that energy is. That's why when you heat up metals enough they don't disappear; they become a combination of gasses and liquid. A different form of energy but nevertheless energy. We have an aura which is created from our bodies and every cell being a motor of energy. When the characters in dragonball shoot chi they are gathering the energy in their body and creating a magnet and collection of chi in their palms. Similar to tai chi in real life. Obviously Dragonball takes it to the extremes but it's essentially the same thing. They use their internal energy as a weapon. Edited by Divine Saiya-jin, Jan 9 2014, 06:00 PM.

What about radiant energy that exists through photons which do not carry mass and therefore are not matter? "That being said, in 1905 Einstein managed to write a law that works whenever: E^2=P^2c^2+m^2c^4. The same year (the same freaking year) he figured out that light is both a particle and a wave and that the energy of a photon isn’t governed by it’s mass or it’s velocity (like matter), but instead is governed entirely by f, it’s frequency: E=hf, where h is Planck’s constant." Just saying that you can have energy outside of physical matter and while energy is directly proportional to momentum in a fictional series I can buy that they can have energy(i.e chi) that exists irrespective of their physical matter but through manipulation of this energy they are able to achieve superhuman feats. Or what Divine Saiyajin said is correct, either or. Edited by petewentz, Jan 9 2014, 08:06 PM.

Einstein was wrong. It was proved in Transformers. Now i believe that its something like life force or Ki output. In Bleach the Captains's Reiatsu are Huge. Just look how Zaraki Kenpachi made Ichigo collapes as if it were 500x gravity. Edited by The Death Note, Jan 9 2014, 08:09 PM.

Not sure if you're serious. lol I hope you're just jocking me. 1. Einstein wasn't proven wrong by a fictional series and 2. Said fictional series applies in no way to Dragonball Z's fictional laws... Sooooo irrelevant either way. Good one though, 9/10 for the reply. |

Actually, it hasn't been proven whether photons actually have mass or not. It's still a debate. Let's continue this conversation through PM if you want. We are getting off topic. |

Answer this and you will know if Ki is physical or not; What exactly is an energy beam? Try to find some theoretical real life version of it, if an energy beam is possible then you have your answer |
